BIOGRAPHY: Chief Dale Cox assumed the position Chief of Police for the Lakeshore Regional Police Service on March 1st 2009 after a distinguished policing career spanning more than three decades with the RCMP. Chief Cox is responsible for overseeing the building of this new First Nation Police Service supplying all policing services for the five First Nations that make up the Lesser Slave Lake Indian Regional Council. Chief Cox’s policing career began when he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1979 and was posted to several locations across Saskatchewan. When serving in his home Province of Alberta, Chief Cox was placed in charge of the Peace River Sub-Division General Investigation Section responsible for the investigation of all major crime in North Western Alberta. Chief Cox postings in Saskatchewan and Alberta consisted of Provincial and Municipal postings as well as providing policing services to First Nation communities. He gained extensive operational and administrational experience through postings in various policing units, which include: General Duties, Traffic Enforcement, Drug Enforcement, General Investigation Section, Major Crimes, and District Management. His duties in undercover work also took him to the Provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Ontario. Chief Cox was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and assumed duties as a member of the Western Alberta District management team as a District Advisory N.C.O. responsible for the oversight of nine Detachments where he remained until his retirement from the RCMP in 2009. Chief Cox has received the following honors and awards in his policing career: 20 year RCMP Long service Medal, 25 year RCMP Long service Medal Bronze Clasp, Alberta Centennial Medal, Certificate of Appreciation for Community Centered Policing, and Commanding Officer RCMP “K” Division Certificate of Appreciation.
ROD KNECHT BIOGRAPHY: Chief Rod Knecht was sworn in as the 22nd Chief of Police of theEdmontonn Police Service on June 7, 2011. Chief Knechtwas previously the Senior Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), ranked as the most senior uniformed police officer in the RCMP. In this role, Rod Knecht was responsible for the efficient and effective operation of all components of the RCMP,including managing a budget of $4.7 Billion and 31,000employees. Prior to his appointment in Ottawa, Chief Knecht was responsible for the RCMP in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. As the Deputy Commissioner – North West Region and Commanding Officer “K” Division in Edmonton, Alberta, he was responsible for managing the operations of 108 detachments and the delivery of community policing throughout the North West Region. Chief Knecht is a strong advocate for integrated policing. While stationed in Alberta, he was instrumental in supporting the development and inception of the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) and the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT). Both inter-agency teams are comprised of police services from across Alberta, including the Edmonton Police Service and the RCMP. Over the course of his 34-year policing career, Chief Knecht has spent the vast majority of time working in an operational capacity. He has significant expertise in serious crimes, drug enforcement, undercover investigations, uniform duties, and intelligence gathering. While Rod Knecht has been relocated 15 times to communities throughout Canada, he considers Edmonton to be his home. He looks forward to settling down in the city where he and his family have grown strong roots.
BIOGRAPHY: Chief Darrell Kambeitz was appointed Chief of the Camrose Police Service January 1, 2008. Chief Kambeitz has 28 years of Policing experience, all with Camrose, and has received training in all aspects of Policing and holds a diploma in Law Enforcement, a certificate from the Executive Development in Policing Program, and is a graduate of the Police Management Development Program. Chief Kambeitz spent 12 years as President of the Camrose Police Association, 8 years as Vice President of the Alberta Federation of Police Associations, and is now honored to serve in this capacity for the Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police. The Camrose Police Service is dedicated trained professionals who are committed to developing and implementing policing strategies and initiatives to ensure Camrose is a safe and secure community.
BIOGRAPHY: Deputy Commissioner Dale McGowan was born and raised in Edmonton. He joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1978. In February 2011, he returned to his home province of Alberta to assume the role of Commanding Officer of “K” Division RCMP. Deputy Commissioner McGowan has served in Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and all three northern territories. He has a wealth of operational, northern and Aboriginal policing experience, and has worked in general duty, serious and major crime, and homicide units. He has also served as Criminal Operations Officer. He is an accredited Emergency Response Team Incident Commander. Deputy Commissioner McGowan has held a variety of command and executive management positions. From 2008-2010, he served as Commanding Officer of "F" Division in Saskatchewan. Deputy Commissioner McGowan is the recipient of a Commanding Officer’s Commendation for Investigative Excellence, the Queens’ Jubilee and RCMP Long Service Medals. Deputy Commissioner McGowan is an avid sports enthusiast. Over the past 30 years, he has coached many youth sports teams. He holds a Level Three coaching status in amateur hockey from the National Coaching Association and has taken teams to provincial, national and international competitions. Deputy Commissioner McGowan and his wife Sheila have three adult children, all of whom are Regular Members of the RCMP.
Since joining the Medicine Hat Police Service in 1980, Andy McGrogan has remained committed to the Police Service’s mission of “Serving and Protecting Our Community with Pride through Progressive and Professional Policing”. As a 28 year veteran of the Service Chief McGrogan has worked in a wide variety of positions including general Patrol Duties, Communications, Canine, Tactical Team Member and Commander, Criminal Investigations, Professional Standards and Development. After serving as an Inspector of both “Support” and “Operational” services, he was promoted to Deputy Chief of Police in September of 2007 and then to Chief of Police in November of 2008. In 2006, Chief McGrogan received his Masters of Arts in Leadership and Training through Royal Roads University. He has a passion for Policing and finds pleasure in adding value to others. He has participated in instructing and facilitating through the Canadian Police College, Athabasca University and the Medicine Hat Community College in both the Police and Security and the Business administration programs.
